Our attorneys are skilled trial lawyers. Joe Romero previously served as a federal prosecutor for seven years. He has tried over 75 jury trials, including serious felony offenses, civil rights cases, and personal injury claims. Sam Winder served as a federal prosecutor for 12 years and also served as a state district court judge; he has tried numerous cases both as a former federal prosecutor and private attorney. Both Mr. Romero and Mr. Winder have earned long-standing and well-deserved reputations as serious, hardworking, and competent attorneys.

Joe is a mentor at the Metropolitan Court Community Veterans Court program and a mentor for at risk teens at the New Mexico Youth Challenge Academy. He has previously served as a board member for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Albuquerque and also served as a Catholic Charities volunteer at the Center for Immigration and Citizenship Legal Assistance.
Sam Winder is a member of the Southern Ute Indian Tribe and is an advocate for Native Americans issues. In 2016, Mr. Winder served as a member of the United States Sentencing Commission – Tribal Advisory Group. He is also a long-time member of the U.S. District Court, District of New Mexico, Criminal Justice Act Panel. Sam is an active member of his church, Calvary Albuquerque, where he has previously served as a board member.

No Charge for Jail Visit
In a criminal case, Romero & Winder, PC does not charge to visit a potential client in jail. We believe that if the potential client is incarcerated, it is part of the consultation process to personally visit the potential client in jail to get a better understanding of the case.
