Backed By Extensive Trial Experience

First and foremost, our attorneys are skilled trial lawyers. Joe Romero previously worked as a federal prosecutor for seven years. He has tried over 100 jury trials, including serious felony offenses, civil rights cases, and personal injury claims. Sam Winder previously worked as a federal prosecutor for 12 years and later earned a well-deserved reputation as a hardworking, competent, and compassionate criminal defense attorney and state district court judge.

Based on our experience, we possess a unique understanding of both the federal and state court systems. We work closely with our clients to ensure they understand what is happening in their case. In addition to practicing law, both Mr. Romero and Mr. Winder are dedicated to helping others.

Joe Romero served his country for 29 years as a reserve JAG Officer in the New Mexico National Guard. His military deployments include active duty tours to Cuba, Kosovo, Qatar and Afghanistan. Locally, Mr. Romero is a mentor at the Metropolitan Court Community Veterans Court program and a mentor for at risk teens at the New Mexico Youth Challenge Academy. He has previously served as a board member for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Albuquerque and as a Catholic Charities volunteer at the Center for Immigration and Citizenship Legal Assistance.

Sam Winder is a member of the Southern Ute Indian Tribe and is an advocate for Native Americans issues. In 2016, Mr. Winder served as a member of the United States Sentencing Commission - Tribal Advisory Group. He is also a long-time member of the U.S. District Court, District of New Mexico, Criminal Justice Act Panel. He is an active member of his church, Calvary Albuquerque, where he has also previously served as a board member.
